The Manchester Antenatal Vascular Service (MAViS) supports women with a history of high blood pressure and those at high risk of developing high blood pressure complications, such as pre-eclampsia, during pregnancy.
Extra blood pressure checks (including 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring) are given so that women can be confident that any blood pressure medication they are taking is working as it should be
Dr Jenny Myers, who runs the clinic, runs a research programme within the Tommy’s Maternal and Fetal Health Research Centre and women attending the MAViS clinic are invited to take part in the research studies.
“The MAViS clinic team have cared for in excess of 600 women who require additional monitoring throughout their pregnancies. The clinic is able to ensure their blood pressure medication is optimised and that their care is tailored to their individual requirements.”

Referral information
Patients can be referred to the Manchester Antenatal Vascular Service (MAViS) by their midwife, GP or consultant.
The clinic helps women with:
- previous early onset pre-eclampsia
- chronic hypertension
- renal hypertension
Women attending the clinic are offered:
- preconception care
- antenatal care
- additional ultrasound scans
