Tommy’s Children’s Carols

Christmas is my favourite time of year - the joy, excitement and anticipation on my children’s faces is contagious, and there’s nothing like a good carol service to get us all in the mood for festivities.  But for many who have lost babies, Christmas is a painful reminder of what could have been.  A time of year that those little souls who didn’t get to live life, feel particularly missed.

I’ve supported Tommy’s since my youngest son, Willem, was stillborn in 2014.  In the dark days that followed I wondered whether happy times like Christmas would always be twinged with sadness. But Tommy’s pioneering research to discover the causes of pregnancy complications and baby loss is changing lives.  Seeing what they did inspired me, it showed me that despite the tragedy I’d endured, there were very clever people working to change things for future families.  

To raise funds, I decided to organise a carol service with children at its heart, a magical evening where fun and laughter were foremost, readings appealed to little ears, and there was plenty of chocolate.  It’s been a resounding success, but not everyone can get to London to join us.  So I wondered if anyone else would like to organise their own?
