Take a chance and make a change with our Weekly Win fundraiser
The Tommy’s Weekly Win launches on Thursday 29 June 2023 and you can sign up to play at weeklywin.tommys.org.
Our research centres in Manchester, Coventry, Warwick, Birmingham and London are making breakthroughs and helping to develop lifesaving treatments and improve maternity care in the UK. Donations are vital for funding this world-leading research into preventing pregnancy complications and loss.
Last year our amazing supporters helped us invest over £2.4m in medical, psychological and health service research.
Fundraising also allows us to run our midwife-led support and information service for people to use on their pregnancy journeys. This includes a phone and email helpline run by the Tommy’s midwives and a research-backed online hub of information and safer pregnancy tools.
Last year 16 million people accessed the Tommy’s PregnancyHub pages online and more than 6,400 were supported by our team of midwives.
Take a chance and make a change – how it works
To join Tommy’s Weekly Win costs just £1 a week. Players are allocated a randomised 6-digit number and can buy more numbers to increase their chance of winning the top prize of £25,000.
Players who get a match for all 6 digits will win £25,000; those with 5 matching numbers win £1,000; 4 matching numbers win £25; and 3 matching numbers receive 5 entries into the next week’s draw.
Weekly Win draws take place every Friday, run by external lottery manager, Sterling Lotteries Management.
Funding research to save babies’ lives
Laura had 5 early miscarriages in the years after having her first child Oscar, who is now 12. In 2019 Laura and Sean were referred to our recurrent miscarriage clinic in Coventry, where they were seen by Deputy Director of the Tommy’s National Centre for Miscarriage Research, Professor Siobhan Quenby.
Laura says:
“When I came to the Tommy’s clinic, they ran lots of tests but restrictions on surgery due to Covid meant I couldn’t have a biopsy until later in the year. In the meantime, I got to know Professor Siobhan Quenby and her team with lots of phone calls, and everyone is so passionate and positive that it filled me with hope I hadn’t dared to have before. Professor Quenby is one of the best, so having her on your side is really uplifting.”
Prof Quenby diagnosed Laura with a condition of the womb lining called endometritis then invited her to take part in CERM - a large international trial exploring the use of an antibiotic called doxycycline to prevent recurrent miscarriage in women with the condition.
Now joining their mum and dad as the ‘faces’ of Tommy’s Weekly Win launch are Laura and Sean’s 2 youngest children, Enzo and Lowen. The boys were born in 2021 and 2023 following Laura’s diagnosis and treatment during CERM.
The family want to help raise awareness of just how vital it is to fundraise for Tommy’s life-saving research and care.
Laura says:
“Life’s very busy! We have the baby stage, and the approaching-teenager stage in our household. But it's amazing. The support we had from Tommy's means everything. It was the light in our darkest days of our miscarriages. It gave us hope and a possible cause to our miscarriages.
“I would never have found out I had chronic endometritis if I had not been referred to Tommy's. I honestly believe we only have Lowen and Enzo because of Tommy's and their work.”
Shana Vashti, Tommy’s Head of Individual Giving & Engagement says:
“The support we’re able to give families like Laura and Sean’s is only possible through our community's amazing fundraising efforts. It's how we make research breakthroughs and then take those breakthroughs out of the lab and into hospitals, and help parents bring healthy babies home.
“So we’re so excited to bring this new initiative to our growing community and will also invite new people to join. Just £1 a week can be truly life changing. The Weekly Win is a fantastic way for you to help us fundraise for the work that help save babies’ lives.”
Tommy’s Weekly Win launches on Thursday 29 June. T&Cs apply. 18+ only.
