Today, we're excited to launch our brand new campaign #WeSeeAMum recognising and celebrating all mums - no matter what path their pregnancy journey has taken them on – in the run-up to Mother’s Day (Sunday 27 March).
At Tommy’s, we understand that every experience of motherhood is unique, and what it means to be a mum is completely different for everybody. Many people will feel like parents from the moment they start their IVF journey, or when they see a positive pregnancy test – even if, heartbreakingly, this much-wanted pregnancy ended in loss.
This Mother’s Day, we hope to raise awareness, and collectively change preconceptions, of what it means to be a mum. #WeSeeAMum encourages our community to come together by sharing photographs, videos and stories about what it means to be a mum using the hashtag on their Instagram, Twitter and Facebook profiles.
We're seeking to capture different moments from all sorts of journeys, from the joyous to the heart-breaking, showing that challenges and losses will never invalidate the feeling of being a mum: every step of the journey should be recognised, and every mum celebrated. It also raises awareness of the need for more research to make sure more mums can bring their babies home.
As part of the campaign, we've launched a short film today which acknowledges and celebrates the unique journeys of motherhood. The film features personal moments shared by amazing mums from our community at different stages of pregnancy and loss, with many being supported by Tommy’s clinics along the way. We hope this will be a really special moment to break the silence around baby loss and champion mums on a day that can sometimes be especially difficult for many.
The film itself includes a voiceover written by the Tommy’s team and read by women’s health specialist Dr Ria Clarke, who is a passionate advocate of our goal of making the UK the safest place in the world to give birth.
